Gor Mahia FC has officially confirmed former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo as its substantive club patron, cementing a significant leadership shift at Kenya’s most decorated football club.
In a statement, club chairman Ambrose Rachier announced that the executive committee had ratified Owalo’s elevation from acting patron, a role he assumed in October, to full patron.
“This is to formally notify the general public, the football fraternity and Gor Mahia fans at large that the club has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Eliud Owalo as the substantive club patron,” read part of the statement signed by Rachier.
According to the club, the appointment is meant to reassure fans, stakeholders, and the broader football community of Gor Mahia’s commitment to stability and forward momentum.
The decision follows weeks of internal consultations and comes at a time when K’Ogalo continues to rebuild both on and off the pitch.
Owalo’s relationship with Gor Mahia spans years, with the former CS often seen rallying behind the club during continental assignments and local fixtures.
Owalo, a longtime supporter of the club and former Deputy Patron, was initially tapped to step in following earlier leadership transitions.
His influence and networks are expected to support the club’s ambitions, particularly in strengthening financial structures, academy systems, and international collaborations.
