The Wine Story Films has today announced the official launch of '10 Toes Down', a documentary on John Kadivane, a rally car driver and mechanic, on the rallying culture in Kenya.

10 Toes Down, which premiered at Nyumba Cinema, Rossylyn Riviera Mall to a limited audience, goes behind the scenes to show the work involved in preparing a rally car and follows John and the Umoja Racing team as they compete in the challenging rallying world while cultivating a rallying culture in Kenya.

Writer and director Ian Gituku says that the documentary is meant to show audiences the great effort it takes to participate in the sport while at the same time exploring the influence of John Kadivane’s father, Ben Muchemi (Baba Chiru), played in making rallying popular to Kenyans.

“The film explores John's unique twist to his late father’s approach of building a rally team in an attempt to break away from his shadow and build his own legacy.”

10 Toes Down also features Umoja Racing Team members Ishmael Azeli, Gideon Kimani, Clement Marini, Stephanie Kabi, Michael Mutethia, Milan Kantai, Joe Ngethe, and Joel Lugali.

The production crew includes Maureen Wanjiku (Archival Supervisor), Richard Kanyi (Cinematographer & DOP), AMP Studios Africa (Sound Mixing), Jivu Music (Original Music Score - "Hold On," composed specifically for the film), Andrew Michatha (Assistant Camera), and Joseph Ongora (Associate Producer).

The documentay's production took ten months, with six months dedicated to filming and four months to editing. Shooting was across multiple locations in Nairobi, Naivasha, and Elementaita.

Ian Gituku is a Kenyan based Film Director & Editor. He is growing to be one of Kenya’s most aspiring documentary filmmakers.
