Inside Rachel Otuoma's little haven: Peaceful with a touch of class

Rachel Otuoma, wife to the late Ezekiel Otuoma’s the former AFC Leopards winger, is the embodiment of resilience, patience, and strength.

Ezekiel Otuoma died at the age of 31 after battling Motor Neurons Disease (MND), this is uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves.

Her journey as a caregiver and life partner to her husband, standing unwaveringly by his side through life’s harshest seasons, is nothing short of admirable. In a world quick to turn its back, Rachel’s devotion even when mocked by friends and foes alike reveals a courage that is rare and deeply inspiring.

Known on TikTok for her vibrant personality, fans are just as likely to find her clapping back at critics as they are to catch her sharing heartwarming conversations with her loyal followers.

When Rachel welcomed me and my Art of Living crew into her home, I was instantly struck by the elegance and serenity of her space.

The ambiance was magnetic an exquisite blend of warmth and sophistication. Dominated by a luxurious white and gold theme, her home radiated peace and new beginnings. Every corner spoke of intention and personal expression, and the layout was nothing short of flawless. A self-taught interior designer, digital influencer and thriving TikTok star, Rachel poured herself into curating a space that symbolized healing and renewal after losing her husband in December 2024.

“I love the colour white it’s peaceful, it allows me to breathe. This is a new beginning for me. It’s necessary and important that I get a chance to start a new life,” she shared.

Part of her healing included moving into a new house and letting go of most furniture from their previous home. “The only things I didn’t give away are his shoes and clothes. I’m still very attached to them... and his accolades, of course. We both loved sports shoes you can see that clearly in my bedroom,” she said with a soft smile.

But the road hasn’t been easy. In the darker times, she was even mockingly nicknamed on Tiktok “Omba Omba” a phrase loaded with judgment about their financial struggles.

How did they survive when neither of them was working?

“Well-wishers stood by us,” she recalled gratefully. “There’s a lovely couple from abroad who even bought us a Vitz car. They still support me to this day. And my TikTok fans they’ve been incredibly kind and generous.”

I asked if she ever thought about leaving her husband, Otuoma when things got unbearably hard.

Her answer was raw and honest. “Yes, many times. But my love for him wouldn’t let me walk out that door. He once wrote me a note saying he loved me and was grateful for everything I was doing for him. I just broke down in tears. That love... that’s what kept me going.”

Rachel’s love for aesthetics is visible in every inch of her home. “My luxurious and elegant 5-seater sofa from Don Furniture cost me Sh65,000,” she said. Most of her pieces are sourced from the same store, where she also collaborates as an influencer and designer.

The chandeliers, bold and dazzling, are a statement on their own, lending a luxurious hotel-like feel reminiscent of a Dubai suite. A round table adorned with a delicate tray and fresh flowers anchors the room with charm.

She has a keen eye for detail, textures, patterns, and hues are harmoniously blended in her cushions, furniture, and decorative accessories. A grand gold-framed mirror commands attention at the heart of her living space, reflecting the sheer beauty she has created.

Soft sheer curtains cascade from the ceiling to the floor, catching the breeze through generous windows, filling the home with light and a refined calm.

“I sell these chandeliers,” she said with a soft smile, her hand brushing lightly over one of the sparkling fixtures. “And the faux planters you see around my house.” Her voice carried a quiet pride, the kind that comes from building something meaningful with your own hands.

Her balcony, a tranquil escape, is laid with a lush, grass-like carpet, a gentle swing swaying beside a cozy chair. A mirrored cabinet catches the light her favorite corner, a place where memories often linger.

Then her tone shifts a tremble in her voice betrays the ache beneath her strength. “I miss him... I miss our daily morning routines,” she whispered, eyes welling with tears.

The weight of her grief, unspoken yet immense, hung in the air like a soft, aching song, a love story interrupted, but never forgotten.

Sketch art pieces hang gracefully on one wall, simple yet intricately detailed, bringing an artistic softness to the space.

The dining area is a seamless extension of the living space. Gold and white dining chairs frame a table set with exquisite cutlery and settings, promising memorable moments of shared meals and celebration.

A round gold mirror and a stunning oversized art piece make striking additions to the dining area. Beneath it all, a handwoven white carpet patterned to match her cushions ties the space together with quiet elegance.

Her ensuite bedroom mirrors the glamour of her living room, a majestic gold and white headboard, crisp white bedding, and elegant gold lamps on either side of the bed.

A standout element is the sleek rack of white sneakers in her bedroom, a fashion lover’s dream. Each pair, from high-end brands, is displayed with care, showcasing her flair for style and detail.

Though the football association initially offered support, it eventually dwindled, and Rachel and her late husband were left to navigate life on their own. Yet through it all, she stood tall, refusing to be broken, choosing instead to rebuild.

And she has.  Rachel Otuoma’s story is one of unwavering love, fierce loyalty, and the beautiful resilience of a woman who dared to begin again.
