In an interview with The Sunday Standard in 2017, the late broadcasting legend Leonard Mambo Mbotela talked about what he has learnt over the years. The media personality passed away earlier today, Friday, February 7 We revisit some of his life lessons:

Choose your spouse carefully

A good marriage is a blessing from God, but before you get married you should first of all contact God.

You might come across a beautiful lady or a handsome young man thinking that your life will be OK because they are good looking, but you end up breaking the marriage because you did not know their character.

You should learn their character from the beginning, no matter how handsome or beautiful she is.

Be good parents

Children will only behave well if the parents are also behaving well. The family will be of no use and the children will learn nothing if one parent is not disciplined.

Many times you find that the father is a drunkard and batters his wife, yet at the same time tries to advise the children not to drink or smoke. Those children cannot grow up right.

Remain humble

The most important thing, whether you are popular, well known or a public figure is that you should always be humble and people will love you.

Don't go around saying, "Don't you know me? Haven't you heard of Leonard Mambo Mbotela?" Always be humble.

Talent means nothing without discipline

That would be my advice to young people, because talent means nothing without discipline. My advice to young media professionals and for those aspiring to join the media is for them to work hard and be willing to learn from those who have gone ahead of them like me.

Be humble and willing to accept correction

Nowadays, you find that most of these youngsters - the upcoming announcers, upcoming deejays or upcoming journalists - do not want to be advised. They think that they know everything.

Yes, they are educated up to the university level but experience is the most important thing. Without experience your degree is nothing, so they should listen to those who are experienced.
