Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has handed over Sh2 million to the parents of the late Nick Kosgei; part of financial support earlier pledged by President William Ruto to families affected by the helicopter crash that claimed several lives.
The MP made the donation during a funeral gathering, saying the funds were meant to help the grieving family cope with immediate financial needs following the tragedy.
During the event, Sudi also cleared an outstanding balance of Sh350,000 for the plot where Kosgei’s parents have been living, ensuring the family can finally obtain the title deed for their land.
“We don’t want a situation where people think there is money in the house and come to harass or rob the elderly parents,” Sudi said while handing over the cash. “That is why we want it secured.”
To avoid security risks, the legislator entrusted the money to area MP Julius Kilel, asking him to bank it on behalf of the bereaved parents.
Sudi also encouraged the family to immediately settle the remaining land payment with the seller so that the ownership documents can be processed without further delay.
In addition, the Kapseret lawmaker donated Sh150,000 to university students who had attended the funeral to cater for lunch during the ceremony.
The financial assistance forms part of a broader support package announced by President Ruto for families of aides who died alongside the late Johanna Ngeno, the Emurua Dikirr MP, in a tragic helicopter crash.
Speaking during a funeral service in Dikirr, the President said the government would step in to support the bereaved families through financial aid, education assistance and employment opportunities.
Ruto announced that the government would allocate Sh8 million to the four affected families, with each receiving Sh2 million to help cushion them from the sudden loss.
“I have listened carefully to the issues raised by these families and how they were being supported by our brother Ngeno,” the President said. “Some of them have small financial challenges and we want to stand with them during this difficult time.”
The four died alongside Ngeno in a February 28 helicopter crash in Nandi County while returning from an event in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County. The incident shocked the region and sparked an outpouring of grief from leaders and residents alike.
