Former Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has died after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

His club, Nejmeh SC of Lebanon, confirmed the news, stating that the Turkish tactician collapsed at Istanbul Airport while travelling from Beirut to Adana. According to the club, Firat had left Beirut just hours earlier and was in transit to his home country when the medical emergency occurred.

In a statement announcing his passing, the club said it was mourning the sudden loss of its first-team coach, describing the moment as a heartbreaking shock for the entire organization.

The club also employs a number of Kenyan international players Antony Akumu, Austin Odhiambo and Massoud Juma.

Back in Kenya, the Football Kenya Federation also paid tribute to the former national team boss. FKF president Hussein Mohammed conveyed condolences to Firat’s family and friends, noting that his time with the Harambee Stars left a lasting mark on Kenyan football.

“Our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of former Harambee Stars Coach Engin Firat. His contribution to Kenyan football will be fondly remembered, may his soul find eternal peace,” he said.
