Grieving wife, mother recount how Gilbert Thuo was killed in Sh30 Super Metro fare dispute

The family of Gilbert Thuo Kimani, the man who tragically lost his life after allegedly being pushed out of a moving Super Metro bus over a KSh30 fare dispute, has spoken out for the first time.

Joyce Wambui, Thuo’s wife, broke down into tears narrating the strange call that broke her heart.

“I picked the call thinking it was him, but it was a woman’s voice on the other side. She said that Thuo had been involved in a bad accident and they had tried to get the authorities to help but were turned down. They could not get an ambulance either and so he passed on.”

Angelica Njeri, Thuo's grieving mother, recounted chilling eyewitness accounts of the incident that led to her son's untimely death.

Speaking to Chuma Moto TV, she revealed that after Thuo fell from the bus, the driver and conductor briefly stepped out to assess the situation before attempting to drive off.

“Upon realising what had happened, other passengers began screaming and demanded to alight. They then forced the crew to drive to the nearest police station,” Njeri recalled.

Eyewitnesses further alleged that Thuo was thrown onto the road and subsequently run over by the same bus.

The impact reportedly fractured his hand and ribs, with the latter puncturing his lungs, leading to his death.

Catherine Kimani, Thuo’s sister, shared the devastating moment she received the news of her brother's passing.

“We received a call informing us that Thuo had been involved in a tragic accident and that his body had been taken to City Mortuary,” she said.

In response to public outrage, Super Metro released a statement on X expressing deep regret over the incident.

“We understand the public's anger, and rightfully so. No one deserves to lose their life in such a senseless manner. At Super Metro, we hold the sanctity of human life as a core value guiding our actions and decisions,” the statement read in part.

The company confirmed that the crew involved had been suspended pending further investigations and pledged to implement stricter measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice is served. Moving forward, we are reinforcing strict safety protocols and training to avoid such incidents,” the statement added.

Thuo’s family is now demanding justice as they mourn the heartbreaking loss of their loved one.
