A 47-year-old woman accused of breaking into her landlord’s house stunned the court by claiming that the two were once lovers and had been living together since 2018.
Hanna Mudoga is facing charges of unlawfully breaking into the house of Gilbert Kisigor on the night of February 6 at Obama Estate in Kayole Junction.
According to the prosecution, Mudoga, accompanied by an unidentified man, allegedly forced her way into the premises and stole a water installation sketch map, property number 102, belonging to Kisigor.
The landlord, who arrived home late that night, was met with an unusual sight. His house was in darkness, yet the door seemed barricaded from within.
Upon spotting torchlight flickering inside, Kisigor raised an alarm, attracting the attention of his tenants who rushed to the scene.
To their surprise, the person inside was none other than Mudoga, a fellow tenant, and her unknown male companion.
When confronted, the two fled into the darkness, taking advantage of a power outage.
The matter was reported to the authorities, leading to Mudoga’s arrest and subsequent arraignment before Makadara Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Mbati.
In her defence, Mudoga, through her lawyer, argued that she was not an intruder but a co-owner of the house, claiming that she and Kisigor had built the property together during their romantic relationship that began in 2018.
She attributed her actions to a misunderstanding that had escalated between them.
Mudoga was released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000, with the case set for hearing on September 2.
