Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has opened up about the tragic accident that claimed the life of her son, Elvis Namenya.
Speaking during his memorial service at Holy Trinity Church in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, Elachi recounted the heartbreaking details of the fatal crash.
She revealed that on the fateful day, Elvis was driving when his car suffered a tyre burst, forcing him to brake suddenly.
In the process, he lost control, leading to a serious accident that left him with critical injuries. Despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed while receiving treatment.
Addressing parents, Elachi reflected on the challenges of raising children in today’s generation. She noted that many young people prefer to handle their struggles alone, often keeping their problems from their parents until it is too late.
“We have a generation that believes they can sort out their own problems. They wake up at any hour to deal with challenges without informing anyone, only speaking up when they realise they can’t handle it,” she said.
Elachi shared that on the day of the accident, Elvis had been called for an errand, which he readily accepted. However, while driving back, his car’s tyre burst.
“These are young people; they don’t always know that when that happens, you shouldn’t touch the emergency brakes. That’s what happened, and in the process, his brain shifted slightly. That’s what took him,” she recounted.
She urged parents to pray for the younger generation and encouraged young people to involve their parents in their struggles so they can receive proper guidance.
Elachi described her late son as a quiet young man who had a deep love for both football and church.
She also expressed her gratitude to Elvis’s friends for standing by him and the family during this difficult time.
Elvis will be laid to rest on Saturday at the family home in Nalepo Village, Kajiado County.
It was earlier reported that on March 18, Elvis had left their home for errands in Kasarani. While driving back, his car suffered a tyre burst along Thika Road, causing it to veer off the road.
He was found unconscious and rushed to AAR Hospital for urgent medical care, but sadly, he did not survive.
