A 39-year-old man from Embakasi, Nairobi, has been charged with physically assaulting his wife after he allegedly returned home with another woman and demanded that his wife vacate the house.
Fredrick Otieno Onyango appeared before Makadara Principal Magistrate Erick Mutunga where he was accused of assaulting his wife, Safina, after she questioned him about bringing another woman home.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on the night of April 25, 2023, when Onyango arrived at their home with a new woman and instructed his wife to pack her belongings and leave.
Safina, who had been living with him for six years, refused to vacate. An argument ensued, during which Onyango allegedly pushed her to the ground and began assaulting her.
She reported that he dragged her by the hair and beat her with a wooden stick, targeting her abdomen and back.
Safina was rescued by neighbours who heard her cries for help and rushed to the scene.
The matter was reported to the police, and Onyango was later arrested. The woman he had brought home was also taken in for questioning but was not charged.
Onyango denied the assault charge in court and was released on a bond of Sh10,000 with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh5,000. The case will be mentioned on May 8, 2025.
The assault left Safina nursing serious injuries, and she was issued with a P3 form to seek medical attention.
Prosecution told the court that investigations were complete and they were ready to proceed with the hearing.
