Ang'ata Barrikoi women with Bible raised emotionally pray after police kill 5 during land protest

Tears, prayers and desperation filled the air in Ang’ata Barrikoi, Trans Mara, as elderly women turned to the heavens after a bloody confrontation left five people dead.

In a deeply moving video, two women fervently pray, with one seen kneeling on the bare earth, hands trembling, as they cry out to God for peace.

One clutched an open Bible, lifting it towards the sky as she begged for divine protection.

In her native Kalenjin, her voice quivering with pain, she declared: “Jesus is our only shield and protector.”

Their cries came hours after police opened fire on locals during a protest over 6,300 acres of disputed land in Emurua Dikirr.

The protest had turned violent on Monday, 28 April 2025, when residents tried to block government officials from demarcating land they claimed was theirs.

In the chaos, one police officer was struck in the head by an arrow. He was rushed to the hospital with the weapon still lodged in the side of his skull.

Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno visited the scene and angrily confronted the officers accused of firing on the crowd.

“Why are you killing people? How many people have you killed? Who is your boss? Who have you killed? What is your interest?” he demanded amid the distant echo of gunfire.

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina expressed his sorrow, pledging to support the residents and ensure their land rights were protected.

“I am deeply saddened by the reported news of the killings in Ang’ata Barikoi. My heartfelt condolences to all affected. I want to assure you that no one can take your land from you,” he said.

“As your Senator, I stand firmly with you in this difficult time. I will visit the area to gain a better understanding of the situation and offer my support. Once again, my sincere condolences,” Olekina added.
