Kayole man tells court he smokes 'kishash' because he is lonely, fined Sh11,000

Kayole man who was convicted on his own plea of guilty has been fined to pay Sh 11,000 or serve two months imprisonment in default after admitting that he uses bhang because he was lonely.

The principal magistrate Hellen Siika  Mbati handed over the sentence to Joseph Ingosi on May 12, 2025 at the Makadara law courts.

Ingosi had pleaded guilty to having in his possession 11 rolls of bhang all valued at Sh 1,100 on May 9, which had not been medically prepared.

On the fateful day at Soymatt area, police officers from Kayole police station were on foot patrol when they were tipped by members of the public that Ingosi was having bhang and he was suspected to have been trafficking the weed.

Police cornered and searched him. 11 rolls of bhang was recovered. He admitted to have been using the plant for his own 'good' . He was taken to the police station where he was booked and later arraigned in court.

He pleaded with court to have mercy on him stating that he collects garbage and due to the nature of his work he has seen horrific scenes and as a result  he has since remained lonely because no one wants to associate with him.

The court however inquired if  garbage collection and loneliness would warrant  consumption of prohibited plant. He was fined to pay Sh 11,000 or serve two months imprisonment in default.
