Former Nairobi Governor and philanthropist Mike Mbuvi Sonko paid a surprise visit to Kikoko Primary School in Makueni County, keeping a promise he made earlier this month after a chance encounter with two schoolgirls in need.

The incident unfolded at the beginning of the month as Sonko was returning from Precious Girls Kilungu High School.

Along the way, he came across pupils from Kikoko Primary walking home. He was struck by the difficult circumstances some of them faced—one young girl wearing a torn uniform and another carrying a worn-out school bag.

"I decided to buy a new pair of uniforms for the girl and a bag for the other girl,” Sonko shared. “Later, I realised that a big number of pupils in the same school face the same challenge.”

True to his word, and living up to his role as Kenya’s Good Deeds Ambassador—Sonko returned to the school, not empty-handed, but with gifts for all 430 pupils and the teachers.

Each child received a new school bag and a geometrical set, while all the girls were provided with sanitary towels stocked for the entire term. The teachers were not left out either; Sonko gave them tokens of appreciation as a gesture of support for their tireless work.

But Sonko’s generosity did not stop there. Understanding the deeper needs of the school, he placed an order for new uniforms for underprivileged pupils, which will be delivered soon.
He also responded to a request to help solve the school's water shortage by pledging to fund the drilling of a borehole.

“This is not a one-time visit,” Sonko affirmed. “I will make another trip to deliver the uniforms and follow up on the water project.”
