A 35-year-old man and his wife in Homa Bay have horrified residents after reportedly burning their son’s hands and forcing him to eat his vomit, all for allegedly consuming food without permission.
The parents were angered when their son ate a haplochromine cichlid, commonly known in Luo as fulu, without their consent. The mother, whose identity has been withheld to protect the child, had prepared the meal before leaving home to buy household items.
However, when she returned home, she discovered that their firstborn son had eaten some of the food without her or her husband’s permission.
She called her husband to inform him of what had happened.
When he arrived home, the couple allegedly forced the boy to eat an excessive amount of food as punishment. He continued eating until he could no longer swallow.
Assistant Chief of Kajwang Sub-location, Enos Nyawade, told The Nairobian that the couple persisted despite the boy vomiting the food.
“The couple decided to punish their son for eating the food without permission by forcing him to overeat,” he said.
“They kept feeding him until he vomited everything he had eaten.”
Shockingly, after the boy vomited into a basin, the couple then forced him to eat his own vomit.
Afterwards, they bound his hands and burned them using a lit piece of plastic. A concerned neighbour alerted the authorities.
Administrator Nyawade warned residents against child abuse, urging parents to treat their children as sacred gifts from God.
“Let people know that there are those who resort to witchdoctors when they lose children, and still fail to find them. If God has given you a child, please take care of him or her,” Nyawade advised.
