Quickmart Supermarket has suspended staff members involved in a recent incident at its Buruburu branch, following widespread public outrage.
The supermarket has issued an official statement acknowledging the situation and apologizing to the affected customers, identified as siblings Shishi and Alfa.
The incident, which gained traction on social media, stemmed from a misunderstanding at the supermarket's milk ATM vending machine. Shishi and Alfa had gone to the supermarket to purchase milk.
After paying and receiving a receipt from the ATM, they proceeded to leave, assuming the service was self-service since there was no attendant present.
The siblings later claimed that an attendant took their receipt and cancelled it, while another employee attempted to cause a commotion, despite their claims of innocence.
According to the siblings, the situation escalated when they were locked in a storeroom and allegedly assaulted by the branch manager.

During the assault, the lady, identified as Shishi, managed to record the incident on her phone. The manager is accused of taking her phone and deleting the video clips. The siblings, however, were later able to recover the footage, which they then posted online, sparking a wave of condemnation from the public.
The manager reportedly tried to contact the police but was unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the siblings' father, who had been called to the scene, went to Buruburu Police Station to report the incident after disagreeing with the manager. The manager is said to have then taken the two siblings to the same police station where their father had already reported the incident.
In response to the public outcry, Quickmart Supermarket released an official statement today (August 5, 2025)
In the statement, the supermarket's management expressed deep regret for the distress caused by the incident, stating, "Our foremost priority is the well-being and dignity of every customer who walks through our doors."
The statement further emphasized that Quickmart does not condone any behavior that undermines its core brand values of "respect, kindness, and integrity."
Quickmart has confirmed that it has placed the involved staff on suspension and is conducting a thorough investigation in collaboration with the relevant authorities.
The supermarket also stated that it has "personally reached out to the affected customer to offer our heartfelt apologies, reassurance and support."
