VIDEO: Anger after Murkomen publicly confronts OCS, gives seven-day ultimatum

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has caused uproar online after publicly reprimanding an Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) in Elgeyo Marakwet.

In a viral video seen by TNX Africa, Murkomen summoned the officer to the front while addressing residents.

“OCS kuja hapa! Wapi OCS? Ambia huyo OCS akuje hapa. Nimeona macho yake sio sawasawa,” he said.

Moments later, a uniformed officer approached the podium and whispered something to the CS, who dismissed the explanation that the OCS was on duty elsewhere.

“Hakuna kazi umemtuma. Akuje hapa na aharakishe. Mkutano haiwezi kuendelea na yeye anatusumbua hapa,” he said.

The remarks drew applause from the crowd, with Murkomen warning the officer: “OCS kama unaniskia kimbia hapa. Hakuna kazi ingine unafanya.”

The OCS eventually appeared in uniform and saluted the CS. Murkomen questioned him about his identity and tenure, with the officer identifying himself as Luke Muoki, who has served as OCS for two months.

The CS then asked whether he was aware of a suspect known as Kalembe, who is allegedly terrorising women and children in the area.

“Unajua Kalembe? Usiniambie mambo ya ugeni. Unamjua vizuri? Umesikia huyo ndio anaumiza wamama na watoto,” he said.

After the officer confirmed he knew the suspect, Murkomen gave him seven days to arrest him, drawing further applause.

He also called for the closure of certain bars in the area, urging Governor Wisley Rotich to revoke their licences.

“Uko na siku saba, I want results. Those bars pia zifungwe. Iyo waragi haiwezi uzwa hapo tena. Governor atcancel licence, wewe ndio utafunga bar. In seven days, I want this place to be clean,” he said.

Murkomen warned of consequences if the directives are not met.

“Na usipofanya hivyo unajua Inspector General vile atafanya. Sitaki kuku-embarrass mbele ya watu, tumekubaliana,” he said.

He further vowed to pursue the suspect if police fail to act.

“Na huyo Kalembe mumwambie nitamtafuta kwa msitu, valleys na kila mahali. Akishinda hawa askari, nitatuma special police,” he said.

The incident triggered varied reactions online, with many calling out the CS for berating the police officer.

On X, Silas Kiplimo wrote, “You are solving a good problem but you just embarrassed the OCS.”

Another user, Irene Biwa, added, “When you ask for licence fees, you give permission to operate. You cannot revoke permits without addressing that.”
