Beyoncé has released a new item that has shocked many of her fans.
To celebrate her 45th birthday and the 20th anniversary of her popular album B’Day, the singer put a special limited-edition wooden box up for sale on her official website alongside other fan merchandise, including T-shirts and hoodies.
The product, named the “Bey Keeper Collector’s Box,” carries a price tag of $948.01 (about Sh122,800). The unusual price is a deliberate nod to her birthdate, September 4, 1981.
According to the official product details, the item is handcrafted from solid pine wood and finished with beeswax oil. Inside, the box is lined with deep green velvet.
On the outside, it features custom engravings, gold hardware, and a faux gator-skin leather carrying strap.
The product is designed to resemble traditional beekeeper crates and is intended to help music fans store and display their Beyoncé vinyl collections. However, the store explicitly notes that the box does not include any vinyl records.
Many listeners and social media users quickly criticised the item’s high cost.
People posted various comments online, questioning why an empty pine box costs so much when pine is generally considered an inexpensive type of wood.
Others questioned the price of the product given Beyoncé’s immense wealth, while some fans joked that for nearly $1,000, the box should come filled with rare videos, unreleased music, or special concert recordings.
Despite the criticism and jokes surrounding the price, the item is being marketed as a highly limited collector’s piece.
Only 500 of the numbered boxes are being produced, making it a particularly exclusive addition to Beyoncé’s merchandise collection.
The Bey Keeper Collector’s Box is part of a wider rollout marking the 20th anniversary of B’Day, which was originally released in September 2006. The anniversary celebrations also include a deluxe edition of the album featuring additional music.
