Controversial musician and businessman Karangu Muraya has caused an online furore after posting a photo of two women, his wife and another identified as Carol Kim, rumoured to be his mistress.
In what appeared to be a way of quelling online speculation and calming waters, the Mukorino sect follower posted a photo of his Mukorino wife and that of Carol Kim on facebook, an image that broke the internet and became the talk of the netizens .
Karangu captioned the photo to read:
“And because you have decided to troll me at my lowest, let me put the record straight. Below are special persons who have supported me passionately and wholeheartedly in all seasons. In return, I will always provide, take care, and protect them together with our children. Troll me and criticize me within the law.”
The photo shows Karangu holding his wife smiling and Carol resting her arm on him pensively. It drew hundrends of comments with a section of netizens congratulating Karangu for allegedly parading his second wife.
After hundreds of comments, Karangu uprooted the post but that did not extinguish the online fire on the post.
In an interview with The Nairobian, the uneasy Karangu denied that he has married a second wife and only referred to Carol as a special friend who has been with him through thick and thin .
“I posted the photos to quell and feed the online naysayers. There is a message I wanted to pass and I passed the it. Both women are my friends and no one can fight me for having friends. There is no where I said that the two are my wives,” Karangu said.
Like all men, Karangu seemed to practice the It wasn’t me philosophy, as championed by Shaggy, a ragga muffin artist.
As if to fan the already spiraling fires, Carol went on to wish Karangu a happy birthday in a cleverly veiled post that also left netizens digging to red between the lines .
“On your birthday, I want to remind you that you are capable of amazing things. It is another year of pursuing your passions and living life to the fullest,” Carol wrote.
Karangu discreetly answered the post, writing:
“Asante sana for the best wishes on my birthday. I cant wait for another year filled with abundant blessings.”
Karangu’s answer did no go unseen as a netizen replied to him that it would be a year with blessings and many children, together with Carol.
Another online fan added that it is Karangu’s year to spend with Carol, noting that a year with abundant blessings is a crafty synonym to mean a year with many more children, with yet another one advising Carol to write ”happy birthday my lovely husband.”
In a following post, Karangu, in what looked like concealing his action after netizens backlash, asked Kenyans to stop calling him Miraya, an online slur meaning philanderer.
Few moments later, Carol would pour petrol on the raging online inferno with a post seen to be telling netizens that she is officially divorced and therefore there is nothing to wonder.
As if to buffer Carol’s post, Wanja Nyarari, her seemingly good friend, said she was a chauffeur in Carol’s wedding and the marriage did not last six months.
“Carol got married in June 2018, and I was her chauffeur. By January 2019, Carol told him that the marriage was not working and the two abandoned the marriage. In December 2021, she filed (for) divorce and in January 2022, she was granted the divorce,” Nyarari wrote.
Upon seeing the photo of Karangu and his “two friends”, controversial blogger Mwangi Muthiora wrote that the story of Karangu and Carol is four years old, only that it has been in wraps.
Mwangi said Karangu is a member of a certain brotherhood of which 99 per cent of the brothers have two wives or concubines and thus parading Carol was not a shocker to him.
Karangu, who is always seen with a turban wrapped on his head, a pointer of chastity and holiness, sent shockwaves to his followers with this cleverly veiled revelation.
