Prominent attorney Tony Buzbee has officially dropped the rape lawsuit against hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, marking an unexpected turn in the high-profile case.
The lawsuit accused Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs of drugging and sexually assulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000, an allegation Jay-Z consistently denied as a blackmail attempt.
Court documents reveal that Buzbee, who was representing the unnamed plaintiff, only identified as Jane Doe in court documents, claimed the assault happened at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards, filed a notice of nonsuit, effectively ending the legal proceedings.
"Counsel for Plaintiff have discussed this matter with counsel for each Defendant, who acknowledge and consent to this submission," the filing stated.
Jay-Z maintained that the lawsuit was an attempt at blackmail. In response to the dismissal, Jay-Z issued a statement saying, "Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictious and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere."
He further added that the fictional tale that they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims.
According to Jay-Z’s Lawyer Alex Spiro who also issued a statement, he said that, “The false case against Jay-Z, that never should have been brought, has been dismissed with prejudice. By standing up in the face of heinous and false allegations, Jay has done what few can- he pushed back, he never settled, he never paid 1 red penny, he triumphed and cleared his name.”
Dismissed with Prejudice simply means that the case cannot be refiled.
Jay-Z, a billionaire entrepreneur and music icon, has faced legal challenges in the past but has largely maintained a clean reputation when it comes to criminal allegations.
