Oprah Winfrey's weight has been discussed for decades, but in 2024, she finally found a solution that worked: Ozempic.

Following knee surgery, the talk show icon turned to diabetes and weight loss medication alongside lifestyle changes.

“I realised I’d been blaming myself all these years for being overweight,” she said. “Obesity is a disease; it's about the brain, not willpower.”

Popular media personality Willis Raburu opted for a gastric bypass after years of yo-yo dieting and failed fitness attempts.

At 164kg, he faced health risks including high blood pressure and cholesterol.

“My health was significantly compromised when I opted for the surgery,” he revealed.

The procedure in Kenya cost him between KSh 600,000 and KSh 900,000. Raburu now eats far less than before.

“I used to consume six to eight chapatis or up to eight pieces of fried chicken in one sitting. Now, I can barely finish one and a half chapatis.”

Acclaimed actress Catherine Kamau, famously known as Kate Actress, decided on a gastric balloon after gym efforts failed to deliver the results she wanted.

“There are roles I aspire to play,” she explained, “but I believe I would exude greater confidence and appeal if I were a few kilograms lighter.”

Her decision was as much about career progression as it was about adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Kenyan content creator and crossdresser Kelvin Kinuthia took his fans along on his weight loss journey using Ozempic injections.

“I discovered I weighed 148 kilograms… I needed two scales to confirm,” he shared.

In just a week, he dropped 3kg and celebrated the transformation with excitement. “This is a genuine testament. Swimsuits, here I come!”

He has continued treatment and anticipates a major body change.

Jackie Matubia – Gastric Balloon

Actress Jackie Matubia spent KSh 500,000 on an Allurion gastric balloon months after having her second child. The results were swift.

“I lost six kilograms in four days,” she said, “and 7.5 kilograms after a week. That would’ve taken me much longer at the gym.”

Matubia now eats smaller meals, no more than five spoonfuls, and urged women to prioritise their own goals. “Don’t listen to your man; love yourself,” she advised.

According to Dr Pranav Pancholi of Avane clinic, although the procedure is costly, it is faster and safer as it does not involve any surgery, endoscopy or any form of anaesthesia.

"It requires no surgery, no endoscopy, and no anaesthesia. One swallows a pill that is connected to a catheter, and inside the stomach, it becomes a balloon. "It is the latest high-tech technology; it is a pill that gets swallowed, then it becomes a balloon, and we fill it with saline once it is in the stomach, which is programmed and stays in the stomach for four months, and you get reduced food intake, and it auto-destructs after four months," he said.

These transformations reflect a broader shift among public figures who are seeking more effective weight loss methods.

From non-invasive procedures to powerful medical injections, they’re redefining body standards on their own terms.

When gym routines don’t always yield desired results, these celebrities have taken bold, personal steps to find what truly works for them.
