Comedian Eric Omondi caused a buzz in Kakamega after parading a massive ugali on a cart, drawing crowds and sparking conversation both on the streets and online.

In a now-viral video, Omondi is seen pushing a ‘mkokoteni’ loaded with an oversized ugali, carefully wrapped under maize flour packaging.

Excited residents surrounded the cart, with some managing to pinch off chunks while others tried to maintain order amid the frenzy.

“Turudi nyuma tafadhali,” a man is heard pleading with the crowd to avoid chaos and give the comedian space.

Ugali, a staple dish in most Kenyan households, holds cultural significance, which explains the overwhelming public excitement.

As the crowd cheered, some bystanders shouted questions about the flour used.

“Ii unga inaitwa aje,” another curious voice asked from the crowd.

Netizens flooded social media with praise for Omondi’s creativity, with many referencing the well-known stereotype about the Luhya community's love for ugali.

“Hii ni best gift mluhya anaeza taka kupewa,” one Instagram user joked.

“Watu washibe 25th because they won’t believe,” another comment read, referencing the upcoming anti-police protests scheduled for June 25, 2025 — a date marking one year since the tragic deaths of Gen Z protesters during the 2024 finance bill demonstrations.

“Mimi nitakuwa nazungusha breakfast asubuhi CBD before tufike kwa Racheal for lunch……come one come all,” someone else quipped.

Eric Omondi is no stranger to public stunts or acts of generosity.

Earlier, he led fundraising efforts for the family of the late blogger Albert Ojwang’, who died in police custody.

The comedian initially shared the phone number of Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo, before later providing a paybill for the family, a move that earned him praise for his compassion and commitment to social causes.
