Former Tahidi High star OJ dismisses viral 'drunk' video: 'Rumour-mongering'

Former Tahidi High actor Dennis Mugo, popularly known as OJ, has dismissed a viral video showing him seemingly intoxicated at a local club.

In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, the actor accused sections of the media of fueling rumours instead of reporting verified facts.

"The continued support of rumour-mongering and ill-motivated spreading by so-called media stations is not welcome but, tushaozoea," OJ wrote.

He also thanked media outlets that, according to him, shared older clips showing him "having a good time," insisting the viral footage being circulated was not recent.

"I thank all the media houses still spreading footage of my good times. I have always had fun wherever I am with my friends," he added.

OJ further urged aspiring journalists to uphold professionalism and ethical reporting in their work.

His statement came after videos purportedly showing him intoxicated went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion about his well-being.

While some social media users expressed concern, others argued that the footage simply showed someone enjoying themselves.

Many also criticised people for recording and sharing individuals in vulnerable moments for online engagement, saying celebrities also deserve privacy.

Despite the speculation, OJ neither confirmed nor denied the claims surrounding the viral clip. Instead, he focused on what he described as unethical journalism and attempts to tarnish his reputation.

"Furthermore, if by any chance tarnishing my name grows your public hair, may you grow barbarian-length bushes. I, on the other hand, shall continue to do me," he concluded.

OJ is best known for playing the rebellious "bad boy" character OJ in Tahidi High, one of Kenya's most popular television drama series.

Since leaving the show, he has largely kept a low public profile. It remains unclear whether he will address the viral video further.
