25 Nairobi creatives to get industry mentorship through Swift Academy

Nairobi’s emerging music scene is getting a new opportunity to sharpen its sound, build industry connections and take its creative careers to the next level, with applications now open for the first edition of Swift Academy.

The Pan-African talent development programme, created by Martell and curated by Africa House, is targeting emerging artistes, producers, songwriters and music industry professionals based in Nairobi.

Twenty-five participants will be selected for a programme built around mentorship, practical workshops, industry access, collaboration and continued creative development.

The academy is bringing together some of the city's notable music and creative voices, giving participants an opportunity to learn directly from people working across different sides of the industry.

Among the mentors are Bensoul, the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist; music  and culture executive Monica Kemoli; music publicist and curator Anyiko Owoko; singer, songwriter and producer Njerae; and music journalist and cultural commentator Joey Akan.

Beyond classroom-style sessions, participants will take part in practical workshops, panel discussions and networking sessions designed to give them a closer look at the realities of building sustainable careers in music and the wider creative economy.

The programme will not end with the initial sessions. Selected creatives will have access to a creative hub for an additional three weeks, providing space to develop their work, put new skills into practice and collaborate with fellow participants.

The experience will culminate in a showcase celebrating the participants' progress and the work developed during the programme.

Each participant will also receive professional tools tailored to their development needs, direct mentorship from industry experts, access to a network of peers and collaborators across four markets, as well as a grant.

With Nairobi's music industry continuing to produce artistes, producers and creative professionals making their mark locally and internationally, the academy arrives at a time when access to mentorship, networks and practical industry knowledge can make a significant difference to emerging talent.

Applications are free, and aspiring participants can apply online by August 28, 2026. All in-person activities will take place in Nairobi, with selected participants responsible for their own travel, accommodation and other related expenses.
