Little Mister and Miss Environment was established in 2018 to empower young minds to actively engage in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
“At Little Mister and Miss Environment Kenya, we are committed to nurturing environmental awareness and advocacy among children. We identify, honor, and mentor young change makers across Kenya, empowering them to take meaningful action in shaping a sustainable future,” The event director Joan Musumba told TNX.
“By spotlighting these young champions, we not only celebrate their efforts but also create a strong platform that amplifies their voices and provides opportunities for the next generation of changemakers. This initiative fosters a positive attitude in children, inspiring them to strive for excellence from an early age. Over the past five years, we have proudly recognized and supported over 500 young climate leaders. We have now hosted the fifth edition of our prestigious award ceremony at in Nairobi, following four successful years in Nakuru,” says Joan.
Expressing her concerns about the mismanagement of climate finance, she remarked, “It is disheartening to see funds meant for climate action being misused. The human race is creating its own apocalypse. Climate finance should be utilized wisely to achieve the greatest impact. We must shift our focus from profits to social impact—people and the planet should always come first.”
The event was graced by Kiogora Murithi, Nakuru City Director of Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, alongside Miss World Kenya 2022, Chantou Kwamboka.
