Outspoken Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo Mabona has joined the growing chorus of Kenyan voices condemning the now-viral saga involving a Russian man accused of secretly recording Kenyan women and circulating the footage online.

In a post shared on her social media platforms, Millie expressed concern for the women whose faces and identities have been widely exposed on social media, warning that the public frenzy often overlooks the emotional and psychological toll on those caught up in viral scandals.

“I wonder what the women implicated in the Russian criminal fiasco are going through with their faces all over social media. I hope the guy is arrested and jailed,” she wrote.

The controversy has sparked outrage, with many Kenyans calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the foreign national at the centre of the storm.

However, Millie went further than condemning the alleged crime. In a blunt reflection that has since fueled heated online discussion, the legislator challenged Kenyans to confront uncomfortable truths about social conditioning, race, and self-worth.

“That aside, we need to be honest. If a random Kenyan man were to approach a decent Kenyan woman for sex, would she willingly show up without question the way the women did?” she posed.

According to the MP, the incident exposes a deeper societal problem — what she described as a lingering colonial mindset that elevates certain races above others.

“We must decolonize our mind that makes us believe that some races are more superior,” she stated.

Millie also emphasized that personal freedom should not come at the expense of dignity, adding that individual responsibility still matters even in a liberal society.

“Secondly, even though we live in a free world, self-respect is still paramount.”
