They stated that they are investigating to find the killer and are terming the tragedy as femicide.

The last moment before she was shot, Valeria could be seen looking at someone or something for a while before the murderous shot.

The influencer was a popular digital creator who had tons of followers on social media. On Instagram, she had over 100,000 followers and was renowned for her fashion- and beauty-based content.

The TikToker’s death has sparked shock all over Mexico. The country is known for dealing with gangs and already has a problem regarding high levels of violence, especially against women.

According to CNN, this comes after another woman who was a mayoral candidate in Veracruz was killed along with three others during a livestream.

In a detailed report by Amnesty International, 25 per cent of women killed in 2020 were as a result of femicide.

Femicide is the intentional murder of a woman or girl, in particular by a man and on account of her gender.

CNN reported that in all 32 states in Mexico, there was at least one case of femicide. In accord with the official government data, 847 cases were determined to be femicides, and at the beginning of 2025, there were another 162 cases.

Colombian congresswoman and Human Rights Watch advocate Juanita Goebertus shared her statistics regarding the femicide cases in Mexico.

“In 2022, about 4,000 women were killed in Mexico; that is 12% of all murders. But only about 67% of those cases ended in a verdict,” Juanita said.

Juanita added that one of the biggest challenges in Mexico is that authorities don’t have enough resources to investigate and find justice for victims.
