Hanifa, Mercy Masai fiercely clash over murdered Albert Ojwang's fundraiser

A heated online exchange has erupted between activists Hanifa and Mercy Nashipai Masai over the fundraising efforts for the late blogger and teacher, Albert Ojwang’.

The two women, both known for their outspoken activism, locked horns on X (formerly Twitter), disputing the transparency surrounding the millions of shillings donated by Kenyans in support of the bereaved family.

Hanifa, in a strongly worded post, accused comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi of allegedly mismanaging the process and dragging the family around without providing them with straightforward answers.

According to her, despite there being an official pay bill issued by the family, a new one emerged that even the deceased’s relatives were unaware of.

“They have clarified about the pay bill and it’s the one they gave me and I posted. No one knows about any other pay bill including the family. Eric Omondi took the family around, I don’t know doing what today. I’ve been in communication with them the entire day and they’ve just been taken round and round,” Hanifa stated.

She added that the grieving family had explicitly requested not to be involved in “mileage or ulterior motives,” preferring to mourn their loved one in peace.

However, Mercy Nashipai Masai countered Hanifa’s claims, defending Eric Omondi, referencing a video posted by the comedian, which showed him and Ojwang’s family at an Equity Bank branch.

“Eric did a video with the family at the bank. I believe this is just a matter of aligning on the pay bill and not an attempt to discredit someone’s efforts,” Mercy said.

She further explained that the alternative pay bill was created to include Ojwang’s mother and wife after consultations.

Hanifa responded sharply, accusing Eric of overwhelming the family with cameras and media attention during the bank visit. “I have screenshots, voice recordings, and receipts,” she declared.

The exchange between the two escalated into personal attacks, with accusations flying about alleged relationships with political figures.

Meanwhile, Eric Omondi maintained that the fundraiser was solely for the benefit of the late blogger’s family, aiming to complete his mother’s house, support his son, and start a business for the widow.
