A disturbing video has surfaced online capturing the chilling moment a man, suspected of fatally shooting a police officer in Thika, hijacked a motorbike in broad daylight while fleeing the scene.
In the footage, the suspect, armed with a handgun, is seen approaching a motorbike carrying a rider and a passenger. He brandished the weapon, forcing both men to dismount.
The passenger quickly leapt off, followed by the rider, and both fled on foot, clearly terrified for their lives. The gunman then hurriedly mounted the motorbike and sped off.

According to the motorbike rider, he had been ferrying a client when the incident occurred. “A man appeared suddenly and pointed a gun at us. He told us to get off. I couldn’t even think of resisting,” the rider later recounted.
After conducting a search with friends, they later found the stolen motorbike abandoned in Section Nine estate, but the suspect had already fled.
The hijacking came just minutes after the suspect allegedly shot and killed a police constable attached to the Special Police Intercept and Verification (SPIV) unit.
The slain officer had been patrolling the area when he stopped the suspect’s motorbike for lacking a registration plate, a legal requirement for all boda boda riders.
Eyewitness Rose Makena said the officer was attempting to remove the bike’s ignition key when the suspect drew a firearm and shot him in the neck.

The brazen attack has left residents shaken and deeply concerned about escalating violence and the safety of both civilians and law enforcement.
Fellow boda boda riders expressed anger and fear, calling for stricter enforcement of registration laws and increased police presence.
Police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice
