Bitter Nairobi woman charged after falsely reporting ex-lover of abducting missing businesswoman

A woman dumped by her former lover following unresolved domestic disputes has been charged with giving false information to police after she falsely accused him of abducting a businesswoman who remains missing.

Mary Wanjiru, 38, appeared in court facing charges of misleading police officers at Embakasi Police Station, Nairobi, by claiming that her ex-partner, Daniel King’ori, 46, had kidnapped Eastleigh businesswoman Susan Wangeci.

Wanjiru is accused of intentionally providing false information to Police Constable Allan Mpaima, an officer attached to the Public Service Commission, on 31 May 2025, in violation of Section 129(a) of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, she claimed to have witnessed King’ori abducting Wangeci in Eastleigh, despite knowing the information was untrue, to have him arrested and detained at Kware Police Station.

Wanjiru reportedly recorded a statement in which she asserted that she saw King’ori and Wangeci entering a suspicious vehicle. She later contacted Wangeci’s family—whose contact information she allegedly sourced through social media—and falsely claimed to know the identity of their missing relative’s abductor.

The family, alarmed by the claims, reported the matter to the police, prompting the arrest of both King’ori and Wanjiru. However, investigations swiftly debunked her account.

Police established that King’ori was not present in Eastleigh at the time of Wangeci’s disappearance and had no known relationship or affair with her, contradicting Wanjiru’s narrative.

Authorities now believe Wanjiru fabricated the abduction story as retaliation after being abandoned by King’ori. Their troubled relationship was previously marred by a 2023 assault case—MCCR 1433/2023—where King’ori stood accused. Wanjiru had also been involved in a separate legal row with King’ori’s wife, which was later settled out of court.

Detectives concluded that King’ori had been framed, and his release from custody is expected within 14 days. Meanwhile, Wangeci remains missing, with police continuing their efforts to trace her whereabouts.
