A video has surfaced online showing chaotic scenes at the site where an AMREF light aircraft crashed into residential buildings in Mwihoko, Githurai 45, on Thursday, August 7.
The footage captures Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers in uniform alongside police officers battling to cordon off the crash site as hundreds of curious onlookers, some armed with mobile phone cameras, flocked the area to get a glimpse of the wreckage.
In the dramatic scenes, officers could be seen shouting and pushing back crowds as they attempted to secure the area for emergency response teams and investigators.
Despite repeated pleas for the public to keep off, the crowd kept surging forward, many trying to record videos of the crash site.
The aircraft, which plummeted into the densely populated neighbourhood in broad daylight, immediately caught fire. Massive plumes of black smoke billowed into the air, visible from kilometres away, drawing more residents to the scene.
As flames engulfed parts of the wreckage, some members of the public bravely attempted to help by trying to extinguish the fire using sand and water despite the danger.

Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties or the identities of any individuals on board the aircraft.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined, with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) expected to issue an official statement once preliminary investigations are complete.
The AMREF crash comes nearly two months after the tragic Air India accident in Ahmedabad on June 12, which claimed the lives of 241 people.
A chilling video circulated online capturing the final moments before Air India Flight AI171 crashed near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, with 242 people on board.
In the heartbreaking footage, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was seen rapidly descending before vanishing behind tall buildings. Moments later, a massive explosion erupts, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky.
