Two women accused of luring a reveller with the promise of a “good business deal” before allegedly drugging and robbing him were on Monday arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts.
The accused, Ann Nyambura Macharia and Joyce Nduta Gichuri, are alleged to have robbed Edward Gikunju Wanjohi of valuables worth Sh329,900 on September 10, 2025, at a nightclub in Ruai. Among the stolen items were two mobile phones, including an iPhone 16, and cash withdrawn from his M-Pesa account.
In the second count, the two are accused of stupefying Wanjohi with the intent to steal from him on the same night.
According to court reports, the complainant had been out drinking with his male friends until about 3am when the two women approached them. Introducing themselves as businesswomen, they invited Wanjohi to their table, insisting they had a deal worth discussing. Interested, he obliged, while his friends left the club, unimpressed by the conversation.
It was while engaging with the women that Wanjohi reportedly lost consciousness. He later woke up the next day in a lodging, where staff informed him that two women had booked him in. They claimed one of them was his sister while the other was his girlfriend.
To his shock, Wanjohi found himself naked, dizzy and extremely weak. He quickly realised that his two phones were missing. Attempts to access his mobile money account revealed that Sh192,200 had been transferred without his consent.
Struggling to recover, he contacted a friend who helped him report the matter to police. He was later referred for medical examination.
Investigators launched inquiries that eventually led to the arrest of Nyambura and Gichuri. The suspects were later subjected to an identification parade before being charged.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali, the two women denied the charges. They were granted a bond of Sh200,000 each and ordered to appear in court for the hearing scheduled on March 17, 2026.
