A Nairobi-based teacher has been charged in court with assaulting a nine-year-old girl and later attacking the child’s mother during a confrontation in Dandora.

Terresia Wanjiru, 36, appeared before the court to answer charges relating to an incident that allegedly occurred on January 10 in Dandora Phase 5, Embakasi Sub-County.

According to court documents, the altercation began when children were playing outside and the minor, identified as M.N., accidentally injured Wanjiru’s child. Prosecutors say Wanjiru became enraged and confronted the girl, allegedly assaulting her and leaving her with visible injuries.

Later that evening, M.N.’s mother reportedly returned home from work to find her daughter crying and bearing marks of injury. She then went to Wanjiru’s residence to seek an explanation, at which point the confrontation escalated. The court heard that Wanjiru allegedly attacked the mother, inflicting injuries on her as well.

The matter was reported to the authorities, leading to Wanjiru’s arrest and subsequent arraignment.

In mitigation, her defence counsel, urged the court to grant lenient bail terms, describing Wanjiru as a single mother solely responsible for raising three children. Wanjiru was released on a Sh20,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on July 10.
