Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 68-year-old woman in Athi River for allegedly being in possession of Cannabis Sativa.

The suspect, identified as Teresia Mwikali Amukoa, was apprehended by officers drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit.

According to the DCI, the arrest followed a tip-off received by detectives. Officers intercepted the suspect while she was riding pillion on a motorcycle at the main entrance of Mutete Flats in Athi River.

Upon conducting a search on the three handbags she was carrying, multiple packages of Cannabis Sativa were discovered inside them.

Following the initial seizure from the handbags, detectives proceeded to the suspect’s residence, where additional packages of the prohibited substance were recovered.

The further consignment was found concealed in a basket and a clear polythene bag. All the seized narcotics have been secured as exhibits for purposes of evidence.

The 68-year-old suspect is currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station. She is undergoing processing as detectives prepare to present her in court to face charges related to the possession of Cannabis Sativa.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reiterated its commitment to combating the trafficking and possession of narcotic substances across the country through sustained intelligence-led operations.

The DCI stated that the operation was conducted professionally and that all recovered substances will be used as exhibit.

As the case proceeds, the suspect remains in custody at Muthaiga Police Station awaiting arraignment.
