Ida Odinga inspects Raila Odinga mausoleum as Bondo memorial project nears completion

‎Ida Odinga led Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Principal Secretary Ummi Bashir, and other senior officials to inspect construction work at the mausoleum for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

‎The site is at Kang'o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

The project will build a new memorial and renovate the nearby Jaramogi Oginga Odinga site. 
‎
‎Officials said the aim is to create a respectful place where people can visit, remember, and learn about the family’s role in Kenya’s history. 
‎
‎The upgrades include the mausoleum, improved walkways, seating areas, and better lighting. 
‎
‎Workers are also restoring historical displays and improving access for visitors.

‎During the visit, Ida Odinga walked through the site with CS Hanna Wendot Cheptumo and PS Ummi Bashir. 
‎
‎They checked the progress and spoke with the site manager about timelines and construction standards. 
‎
‎The team looked at completed sections and areas still under work. 
‎
‎They discussed safety measures, the quality of materials, and the need to protect historic items during renovation.

‎Officials said the project is on schedule and aims to finish by October 2026, ahead of the one-year anniversary of Raila Odinga’s passing. 
‎
‎Local leaders welcomed the work, saying the site will boost cultural tourism and offer a place for education about the country’s past. 
‎
‎Community members also embraced the project.
‎
‎The culture ministry said it will continue to monitor the work closely. 
‎
‎Once finished, both the mausoleum and renovated Jaramogi Oginga Odinga site will open to the public as a lasting tribute to the late leader and his family’s role in Kenya’s history.
