Video: Drama in Gilgil as MKU students confront NTSA officers after bus is intercepted

Drama unfolded in Gilgil near Nakuru weighbridge after students from Mount Kenya University reportedly protested following interception of their institutional bus by officers from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). 

A viral video circulating online showed a tensed roadside confrontation involving the NTSA officer and students after the university bus was stopped and its number plate removed.

The bus reportedly intercepted during a major highway crackdown in Nakuru. In the footage, the NTSA officer is seen removing the number plate as a group of students gathered around the bus, protesting against the action.

In footage students were frustrated and could be heard objecting the officers action voicing their frustrations over what they described as unequal treatment during the operation.

At one point amidst common, one student was heard saying, “Unataka zawadi, anaskia kama ameomoka  ju ya number plate.”

However, the exact reasons as to why the bus was stopped remains unclear. The video circulating and social media posts reviewed do not provide sufficient information for a specific compliance issue that prompted the interception. 

The incident has sparked an online debate with social media users questioning circumstances that led to interception. 

It has also raised the question about the balance between transport enforcement and the welfare of travelers caught in such operations. 

While authorities have responsibility, to enhance road safety requirements, passengers can be left facing significant inconveniences when a vehicle is suddenly immobilized amidst the journey. 

The incidence comes amidst the continued road and safety transport by NTSA which aims to regulate road transport and enhance safety on the roads.
