NACADA arrests 11, seizes counterfeit alcohol in Nairobi crackdown

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has arrested 11 people and seized counterfeit alcoholic beverages during a multi-agency operation in Nairobi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, NACADA said the operation was conducted between August 20 and 31 across eight Nairobi sub-counties.

The crackdown covered Roysambu, Kasarani, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Starehe, Lang’ata, Embakasi West and Kamukunji.

NACADA said the operation uncovered several compliance violations, including counterfeit Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) excise stamps, uncoded alcoholic products, expired beverages and other counterfeit products.

The crackdown comes amid growing public concern over the manufacture, distribution and sale of fake and potentially unsafe alcoholic products across the country.

NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa said the authority was working with the KRA, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Police Service and other government agencies to verify the seized products.

The agencies will also pursue individuals suspected of manufacturing, distributing or selling counterfeit and illicit alcoholic products.

NACADA said the operations are targeting wider networks involved in the illicit alcohol trade, rather than individual outlets alone.

The authority is also reviewing information shared by members of the public on various platforms to facilitate action by multi-agency teams across the country.
