Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was forced to flee Nyayo Stadium after being confronted by rowdy youth during the Kenya-Gabon match.
In a viral video shared online, the youthful legislator is seen rushing out of the stadium, struggling to evade a swarm of youths trailing him. At one point, an object is hurled at him from behind.
In another clip, a voice is heard shouting, “Heshimu Raila!”—seemingly in response to his criticism of ODM leader Raila Odinga. A third video captures Salasya heading towards his car, struggling to lose the swarm of youth chasing him, as another voice shouts, “Heshimu Rais!”
It remains unclear how and when the altercation began.
In recent weeks, Salasya has been vocal against the current administration and unreserved in his attacks on the ODM leader. In a viral video, he dared the party to field a candidate against him in the 2027 elections, which he considers his strong ground.
“Nimeskia ati Raila anaweza leta ODM, alete mtu huko Mumias aniangushe kura huko, hawajui Peter Salasya ni nani," he says. Nimeskia ati Raila anaweza leta ODM, alete mtu huko Mumias aniangushe kura huko, hawajui Peter Salasya ni nani," he said in the video.
During President William Ruto’s visit to the Western region, Salasya openly demanded honesty on sugar farmers’ bonuses, prompting a response from the head of state at the same event.
"Where is the money we are giving these farmers coming from? We need to know because it was not in our budget. I want to ask you, Mr President, to hire me as your advisor because your people are not being honest with you,” Salasya remarked.
Whether this incident signals further challenges for Salasya’s firebrand politics remains to be seen, especially amid the shifting dynamics of the Ruto-Raila alliance.
