Brian Oduor’s journey in Nairobi began with nothing but big dreams and an empty pocket. When he first set foot in the city, he settled in a tiny mabati house in Utawala- no floor, just bare earth beneath him.
“At night, I would lie on my mattress, staring at the iron-sheet roof, reminding myself that this was only the beginning. The struggle was real,” he says.
Hustling for daily survival was tough, and with no proper support system, he soon found himself at a breaking point. Reality hit hard, and he had to make the painful decision to return to the village.
But something inside him refused to let go of his dreams. Determined to turn his life around, he made his way back to Nairobi, hungrier for success than ever before.
He took up any opportunity that came his way, working tirelessly to carve out a future for himself.
Slowly but surely, his hustle paid off. Step by step, he built himself up, proving that perseverance and strategy always win.
Now, Brian is channeling his hard-earned success into a bigger purpose, transforming Dagoretti North. Through his foundation, BRICO (Brian Community Foundation), he has dedicated himself to empowering the youth and marginalised communities.
Understanding the struggles of bright but financially disadvantaged students, he has invested in scholarships, ensuring they get a chance at higher education.
He believes education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Beyond education, BRICO has been a pillar of empowerment, equipping young men and women with vocational skills in hairdressing, tailoring, carpentry, digital training, and small business support.
His philosophy is simple: sustainable development means helping people to help themselves.
As he steps into the political arena, Brian envisions a transformed constituency where young people have access to quality education, women thrive economically, and every household feels the impact of good governance.
“I believe that leadership is about service, not power. Whether in politics or philanthropy, my mission remains the same, to uplift people and create opportunities where none existed before,” he says.
