Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has shared exclusive details about his fallout with President William Ruto, revealing months of silence between the two.

Speaking to TNX Africa, Muturi disclosed that President Ruto has not responded to his calls since January 4, following the funeral of Lenny Kivuti's son.

"He stopped picking my calls since the funeral of Lenny Kivuti's son. This was on 4th January. We have not spoken since. I do not miss it," Muturi stated.

The former CS admitted he eventually abandoned attempts to contact the President.

"In any case, I was not just calling him for the heck of it. I would only call him when it was absolutely necessary. So, I said, to hell! He is not that without which I cannot live," he explained.

The rift between the two leaders reportedly began in mid-2024 when Muturi's son, Leslie, was abducted during anti-government demonstrations.

Muturi, who was serving as Attorney General at the time, sought President Ruto's assistance, which resulted in Leslie's release through National Intelligence Service intervention.

Following this incident, Muturi became increasingly outspoken about government's handling of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial practices.

He accused senior officials of concealing information and expressed frustration over the Cabinet's failure to address these issues.

The relationship further deteriorated when Muturi began skipping Cabinet meetings, stating he had requested to be excused until his concerns were properly addressed.

His public criticisms drew sharp responses from Ruto's allies, with the President eventually describing him as "fairly incompetent."

Muturi was subsequently removed from the Cabinet during a reshuffle, after which the Democratic Party, under his leadership, formally withdrew from the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance, citing irreconcilable differences.

Recent court proceedings have introduced a new dimension to the controversy.

While President Ruto publicly announced he had "fired" Muturi, government court documents presented Tuesday suggest Muturi may have voluntarily resigned as Attorney General.

This revelation emerged during a High Court hearing of a lawsuit challenging the legality of Muturi's removal from office.
