Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned President William Ruto’s administration over the alleged killings, abductions, and arrests of young people, as well as claims of electoral fraud ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political rally, Sifuna criticized the President and his allies for constantly discussing the 2027 polls while, he claimed, police officers were killing young Kenyans.
“Mimi nimeskia wengine wanatuambia ati kama tuko na mashindano na wao, tungoje tufike 2027. Lakini yule anatuambia hivyo hataki tufike 2027 na yeye. Wanakaa wakipiga vijana wetu risasi kila siku,” Sifuna said.
He cited the case of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’, who was reportedly arrested in Homa Bay, later tortured, and died in police custody in Nairobi.
Sifuna questioned how such individuals, now deceased, could be expected to vote.
“Yule kijana ambaye alichukuliwa Homabay anaitwa Albert akauawa na polisi atapiga aje kura 2027? Nataka kumwambia President William Ruto, kama sisi hatufiki 2027, ata yeye hafiki,” he declared.

The senator also criticized the alleged directive by the President to have police shoot protesters in the leg, terming it inhumane and unacceptable. \
He recounted hospital visits in Nairobi where he met victims nursing gunshot wounds.
“Inawezekanaje unataka kufika 2027 na unaamrisha polisi watupige risasi? Rais mkubwa unaamrisha polisi wapige watu risasi kwa mguu. Mimi kama kiongozi pale Nairobi, nimeenda hospitali baada ya maandamano kuona waliopigwa risasi kwa mguu. It is not something you would wish on anybody. How can a national leader stand and say something like that?” he posed.
Sifuna further referenced the killing of 12-year-old Brigit Njoki, who was fatally shot while watching television in her living room in Kiambu. He questioned the practicality of expecting officers who allegedly shoot at children indoors to aim for the leg.
“Na hao ni polisi ambao wanapiga ata watoto wadogo risasi wakiwa ndani ya nyumba. Sasa unaambia polisi ambaye anapiga risasi ndani ya nyumba ati aone mguu wapi? Si atapiga vile anapiganga?” he asked.
The ODM Secretary-General went on to allege that some of President Ruto’s allies had openly talked about plans to rig the 2027 election, which he said constituted a serious offence. He called for accountability and insisted that the President would be voted out early in the morning on election day.
“Kitu kingine, wewe unatuambia tungoje 2027 na marafiki zako wanatuambia mnapanga kuiba 2027. Waite wale wabunge wanaosema haya wazi ili wajibu mashtaka. Sisi tunangojea siku ambayo tutapiga kura, by saa mbili asubuhi, Ruto atakuwa ameenda nyumbani,” said Sifuna.
