ODM party leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to Dubai to take a break after a hectic period, his younger sister Ruth Odinga has confirmed.
Ruth, who is also the Kisumu Woman Representative, told The Standard that the visit was pre-planned to allow him to rest. She said he will be away for three days before travelling back to the country.
She allayed fears that his brother is unwell and described the break as necessary to help him reenergize.
"We are also human beings and it has been hectic for us as a family. Since we lost our brother, we have not had any rest, " she said.
Immediately after burying their brother, Raila Odinga, Oburu was thrust at the center of a transition in the ODM party that was celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Oburu, too, has been on the campaign trail for ODM candidates in the upcoming by-elections and has led campaigns in Ugunja and Kasipul, where he urged residents to back the party's candidates.
According to Ruth, the busy schedule has not allowed her brother to rest or even recover from the loss of their late brother.
"I am also planning to take a break because it is necessary. However, for now, I will still help our party candidates with campaigns ahead of next week's by-elections," said Ruth.
The Standard has established that Oburu flew out of the country to Dubai on Friday morning, a day after he led campaigns for ODM's Boyd Were in Kasipul.
