Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi returns home after five-month stay in India

Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi has returned to the country after spending about five months in India, where he was undergoing specialised medical treatment.

The legislator was airlifted to India in early December 2025 on doctors’ advice, following a month-long admission at The Nairobi Hospital.

He arrived back in Kenya on Monday evening and was received by his family.

His return was confirmed by the Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K), led by Eugene Wamalwa.

Before is transfer abroad, speculation over his health triggered public concern, with some false reports claiming he had died. The claims prompted National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to issue a clarification, dismissing them as malicious.

“Yesterday, I had a conference call with him and his spouse, who accompanied him. This morning, the Clerk also communicated with him. I am sharing this to address malicious rumours circulating in his constituency suggesting that he has passed away,” Wetang’ula said, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified claims about health matters.

During a visit to India in January, Wetang’ula said he had checked on the MP at KIMS Health Care Management Limited, where he was receiving specialised care.

“I was encouraged by the progress he has made and remain optimistic about his recovery. He is responding well to treatment and rehabilitation under close medical supervision. I was reassured that he is receiving comprehensive, multidisciplinary care and that his condition has stabilised,” the statement read.

Wanyonyi has served as MP for Kwanza Constituency in Trans Nzoia County since 2013.
