A 27-year-old security guard is facing legal consequences after his ex-girlfriend ended their relationship following a heated argument.

The dispute arose over an alleged member of the County Assembly’s (MCA) phone number saved on her phone.

Court records reveal that Vincent Kiprono Mutai caused a scene at the home of Z.J., a college student, in Mathare North 4, Starehe Sub-County, on March 6.

During the altercation, he allegedly threatened to kill her, creating a situation that could have escalated into a breach of the peace.

The once-romantic relationship quickly turned sour due to a series of troubling incidents, with the complainant describing it as an unhealthy affair plagued by constant death threats.

Kiprono’s jealousy and insecurity became evident when he confronted Z.J. about having phone numbers of men saved in her contacts, particularly fixating on one labelled “MCA.”

He repeatedly demanded to know the identity of the MCA behind the number, leading to growing tension in their relationship. Eventually, his threats became too much for the complainant to bear, prompting her to end the relationship abruptly.

Feeling betrayed, Kiprono claimed he had no choice but to threaten the complainant if she continued saving male contacts in her phone.

On the morning of the incident, unable to accept the breakup, the accused arrived at the complainant’s house armed with a penknife.

After locking the door behind him, he demanded that she prepare food while showing her the knife tucked into his waistband.

Thinking quickly, the complainant managed to persuade him to go for supper at a nearby hotel. Once there, she seized the opportunity to flee and sought refuge at a friend’s house. With her friend’s support, she reported the ordeal at Muthaiga Police Station.

Kiprono was later arrested at the complainant’s house while issuing further death threats. Senior Resident Magistrate Mbati has since granted him a cash bail of Sh10,000 as he awaits trial on September 3.
