Fidel Rayd, born Fidel Osano, is a rising star in the Kenyan music scene. He is currently ruling the airwaves with his single ‘Saa Hii ye ni Ex’.
“I was literally venting through music after a salty breakup. This was a way of expressing myself and I know very many people have been in the same scenario and can actually relate to the song,” he says.
Having spent his formative years in Nairobi, his passion for music, particularly rap, started at a young age. He found rap to be a powerful medium for expressing his emotions and sharing his thoughts on various issues.
“Music has always been my calling. From as far back as primary school, I’ve been passionate about playing with rhymes and piecing them together like puzzles. My style draws inspiration from technical artistes like Eminem, Hopsin, and J Cole.,” he says.
Apart from being a rapper, Rayd is also a music producer. He is proficient in mixing and mastering, which enables him to have greater control over the quality and sound of his music. His production skills have been instrumental in creating polished and professional tracks that resonate with his audience.
Fidel has seen a fair share of incidences and he says one particular incident that he witnessed was a person being stabbed in town.
“I’ve witnessed some horrifying scenes on the streets. One incident that sticks with me involved a man who was attacked while resisting a robbery attempt. The brutality of the assault was shocking. A small confrontation escalated into full blown fight,” he explains.
This he says, taught him a valuable lesson and he never wants to get physical anytime as some things are not worth your life.
