A Love Island USA executive producer has died while working on the hit reality show's latest season in Fiji.

James Barker, 40, reportedly suffered a sudden medical emergency last week during production of season eight.

His death was confirmed on Monday, June 15, by the show's producers, ITV America and Peacock, after TMZ broke the news.

Barker joined Love Island USA in 2020 as a story producer and rose through the ranks to become executive producer for the past three seasons.

He played a key role in production, post-production and the show's music direction.

Following his demise, the two networks announced plans to pay tribute to him during the Tuesday, June 16 episode of Love Island USA.

"James' unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock," the companies said in a joint statement. "He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him."

They added, "We extend our heartfelt condolences to James' family, friends and colleagues."

Before joining Love Island USA, Barker worked on several popular reality television series.

He began his career at Leftfield Pictures in 2011, contributing to shows including Counting Cars, Forged in Fire and Pawn Stars.

He later joined ITV America, where he worked on Queer Eye before becoming involved with Love Island USA and Love Island Games.

During his career, he also collaborated with production companies including Scout Productions, Sharp Entertainment and Kinetic Content.

Hosted by Ariana Madix, Love Island USA premiered in 2019 and is currently airing its eighth season on Peacock.

The latest season debuted on June 2 and follows a new group of contestants searching for love in Fiji.

Just days before his death, Barker shared an emotional Instagram post celebrating the launch of the new season and praising the team behind the show.

"We come to Fiji for magic. We come to @loveislandusa to laugh, to cry, to care. Our islanders feel like the best part of us, and stories feel perfect and powerful ... because here ... they are. Hope you're all enjoying the new season brought to you by a huge squad of brilliant people, including the three models standing beside me," he wrote.
