VIDEO: Dramatic moment Ruai woman was rescued from submerged car after heavy rains

A video has captured the heart-stopping moment a woman was rescued after her car was nearly submerged in floodwaters in Ruai.

Footage taken during a heavy downpour that brought the usually busy town to a standstill shows residents scrambling to pull her from a Toyota Premio as screams ring out in the background.

“Vuta!” one voice shouts, urging rescuers on as the woman, dressed in an orange hoodie and blue trousers, is dragged to safety.

“Ametoka!” another voice yells, as someone adds, “Huyu mwanamke amejaribu.”

The visibly shaken woman is then escorted to a safer spot as the clip ends.

The incident reportedly occurred in Ruai after an evening downpour hit parts of Nairobi, though the location is not immediately verifiable from the video.

It comes a day after the Kenya Meteorological Department warned of continued rainfall in its February 17 to 23 forecast.

The weatherman said afternoon showers and occasional thunderstorms are expected across the Highlands, east and west of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.

Rain is also likely in the Rift Valley, parts of the southeastern lowlands and the coast, while northeastern and northwestern Kenya are forecast to remain largely sunny and dry.

In the western highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin and several Rift Valley counties including Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Narok, the department said morning rains are likely in a few areas, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected in several places.

Night showers may also occur and occasionally spread to multiple locations.

On the other hand, daytime temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are expected in the coast, south eastern lowlands and northern regions, while nighttime temperatures could drop below 10 degrees Celsius in parts of the highlands and around Mt Kilimanjaro.
