Two dead, 14 injured in US bar shooting as FBI probes terror link

A gunman shot and killed two people and injured 14 others at an outdoor bar in Austin on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, was a 53-year-old naturalised US citizen originally born in Senegal.

According to CBS News, the gunman drove an SUV around the block, firing from an open window at people seated outside the bar. He later exited the vehicle and continued shooting as he walked down the street.

Video footage seen by TNX Africa shows bystanders running for cover as officers engaged the suspect.

After the gunman reportedly fired at police, officers returned fire, fatally shooting him.

Authorities recovered multiple weapons, including a handgun and a rifle, from the scene and inside his vehicle.

Nathan Comeaux, who recorded the incident, told CBS News that he saw the suspect fire at officers before police shot back and stopped him.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local police believe the shooter acted alone. While investigators are examining possible links to international terrorism or extremist ideologies, they noted that the suspect had a documented history of mental health issues in the area.

According to CNN, Diagne was wearing a hoodie reading “Property of Allah” and an undershirt featuring the Iranian flag at the time of the shooting.

Investigators are reviewing whether the timing and clothing indicate any connection to global events. A copy of the Quran was also recovered from his vehicle.

“Obviously, it’s still way too early in the process to determine an exact motivation, but there were indicators on the subject and then his vehicle that indicate a potential nexus to terrorism,” said Alex Doran, acting special agent in charge of the FBI San Antonio Division.
