Talay Riley: Hit songwriter for Dua Lipa, Britney Spears killed in London stabbing

Grammy-winning British songwriter Talay Riley, who worked with global stars including Dua Lipa and Britney Spears, has died at the age of 35 after being stabbed in east London on June 5.

Police confirmed that Riley, whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, was found with stab wounds in Silvertown and was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.

According to the BBC, a second victim, a man in his 20s, was also found at the scene and is being treated for multiple stab wounds, though police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The acclaimed songwriter contributed to several major hits throughout his career, including Khalid’s "Young Dumb & Broke", The Chainsmokers’ "Who Do You Love", and Flo’s "Walk Like This".

Following the news of his death, three people were arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 27-year-old man has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, while a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been released with no further action.

As the investigation continues, Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke appealed to the public for information.

"Our investigation continues at pace," she said.

"I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to speak to the police. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might have CCTV or other footage from the morning of the incident that could assist our investigation."

Meanwhile, tributes have poured in for the musician, led by his brother, Michael Orabiyi, the record producer and songwriter better known as Scribz Riley.

Sharing his grief in an Instagram post, he wrote that his heart was "shattered".

In his emotional online message, Michael Orabiyi described his brother as a "friend to many, a mentor, an inspiration, and a light in so many people’s lives".

"He loved deeply, gave freely, and touched countless people through his talent, kindness, and spirit," he wrote.

"The outpouring of love already shows how many lives he impacted. You inspired so many people and your legacy will continue to live on through your music."

The music industry quickly rallied to support the family.

Stormzy commented on the post, writing, "I’m sorry bro," while former X Factor star Shayne Ward said, "Sending you and your family strength and prayers."

Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan also paid tribute, writing, "Sending my condolences and prayers, so very sorry."
