VIDEO: MP Betty Maina's surprise response to husband Wamumbi's dance tickles crowd

A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) empowerment rally in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, took an unexpected turn after a lighthearted dance showcase involving elected leaders.

In a viral clip seen by TNX Africa, the incident began when Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi stepped onto the dais and was joined by a female attendee for a dance.

As they danced, Wamumbi turned to the crowd and jokingly asked whether he should take the woman home with him.

"Nipeleke huyu nyumbani ama nisipeleke? Si malipo ni hapa hapa duniani?" the Mathira MP quipped.

In response, his wife, Murang'a County Woman Representative Betty Maina, opted for an unconventional reaction. She invited a young male spectator onto the stage and joined him in a similar dance.

If a typical woman sees her husband dancing with another lady, she either sits down quietly or storms in to stop it.

But Murang’a Woman Rep Betty Maina is a Different breed entirely ?

responding to her husband's question alongside the crowd, she said, "Peleka."

Wamumbi continued the playful banter, saying the woman should first collect her belongings before accompanying him to Mathira Constituency.

"Huyu nataka aendee nguo, niende na yeye Mathira," he said, drawing even more laughter and excitement from the crowd.

When the music resumed, Betty Maina broke into a dance with the male attendee while her husband continued dancing with the woman. At one point, Wamumbi lifted his dance partner, sparking cheers from the audience.

The Mathira MP then concluded his remarks as the group exited the dais.

The playful exchange captivated attendees, briefly shifting attention away from the political gathering to the couple's competitive showmanship.

The viral video also sparked mixed reactions online.

On X, Nyamweya Omari wrote: "This was scripted to fool the gullible voters! And guess what, they already believed the script!"

Another user, Alicia Kairu, commented: "I would do the same, no causing violence and chaos."

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi and Murang'a Woman Representative Betty Maina tied the knot on November 18, 2023, during a traditional ruracio ceremony held in Kangari, Murang'a County.
