Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba was forced to pull down a post in which she appeared alongside former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga, following intense backlash on social media.

In the post, Wamuchomba had shared a message to her followers, passing regards from Njenga.

"Chairman war old amesema mbarikiwe saana. He's mourning his AWA. Ni thaayu!" she captioned.

However, netizens quickly descended on her comment section, criticising her for meeting Njenga, whom they described as having a tainted public record.

"This Gathoni doesn't have a stand. I know they think it's just about numbers in the election but..." one user commented.

"Gathoni is just chasing clout. She wants to be the Kiambu governor. One thing about politicians is you can be certain they will always prioritise themselves," wrote another.

"Never understood the fascination people have associating with such people. I wouldn't take a picture with him even if money was on offer," chimed a third.

On Facebook, Wamuchomba initially left the post online, where Kenyans continued to voice their frustrations.

"Kenyans are not foolish. Ask me about the harassment we endured during the Mungiki mayhem, when I had to pay 500 Ksh to move from one house to another," wrote one user.

"Gathoni Wamuchomba was in the media when Mungiki were slaughtering and robbing people across Nairobi, Kajiado, Mt Kenya, and CRV. She knows how ruthless that man is, but chooses to kiss his hand," added another.

Wamuchomba was visiting Njenga to condole following the death of his father, Stephen Kamunya Njoroge Njenga.

At his Kitengela home, Njenga has been receiving delegations, including a group of musicians led by Ngaruiya Junior, who visited earlier in the week.

A group of Kiambu leaders also visited, led by Kabete parliamentary aspirant James Wanjohi.

They called on Mt Kenya leaders and residents to remain united and speak with one political voice.

They said the burial, scheduled for December 31 in Laikipia, would serve as a powerful declaration of unity for the region.

To ensure a large turnout, at least 26 buses have been organised by Wanjohi to ferry Njenga's supporters to the funeral.
